Extended contract allows UW to offer 5G services to its 300,000 strong mobile customer base.
< Back to Newsroom1 September 2020 - UW and BT are delighted to announce a five-year extension to their Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement, building on a successful partnership that spans over 20 years.
Under the newly signed contract, UW’s mobile customers will benefit from access to BT’s leading 4G and 5G EE mobile network, as well as benefiting from VoLTE and VoWiFi functionality. It also gives UW long term confidence that it will be able to support its customers’ needs for ever increasing data usage on competitive terms, allowing the multi service provider to continue to grow its base of around 300,000 mobile customers across the UK.
Andrew Lindsay, UW CEO said: “This extension will enable us to further improve our Which? award-winning mobile service, by eventually giving our customers access to 5G, VoLTE and VoWiFi. It supports our aspirations to materially grow our mobile base over the medium term and ensures we will be able to maintain our current strong competitive position as data usage continues to increase.”
Alex Tempest, Managing Director, BT’s Wholesale unit said: “BT and UW have had a successful relationship for many years, and we are pleased to continue supporting the successful growth of their business through our leading network capabilities. As Europe’s largest Wholesale provider, we are acutely aware of the increasing importance customers place on network experience so it’s great that UW have put their trust in BT to support their business for the long term."
EE, part of BT Group, continues to be the UK’s leading mobile network operator in terms of network performance, recently winning best network for 5G in addition to winning best 4G network for seven years in a row with faster 4G data speeds and 4G coverage in more places than any other network, according to RootMetrics.
